The Cornetto Trilogy

“The Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy” or “The Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy” is a series of comedy films directed by Edgar Wright. The series consist of 3 movies: Shaun of the Dead (2004), Hot Fuzz (2007) and The World’s End (2013). The final firm of the trilogy was released in the US on 23 August 2013, so my hubby and me went to see it last weekend. Several days before we went to the theatre, we watched the previous two films at home on our projector. They are brilliant! Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are great actors! Edgar Wright (Director), Martin Freeman (known for Dr. Watson in Sherlock and Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit) and Bill Nighy (known for Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollow – Part I) also appeared in all of them. According to my hubby, the first film was loved by so many fans and they wanted to be a part of it. In the second film, famous fans like Peter Jackson and Cate Blanchett were in it! 😀

1. Shaun of the Dead (2004)

Shaun of the Dead

This movie is a parody of George A. Romero’s classic zombie movies like Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead. It is about a normal guy named, Shuan, who has to deal with zombie apocalypse on top of problems with his girlfriend, mother and stepfather. In my opinion, it is a great comedy zombie movie, so if you love zombie movies… don’t miss it!

2. Hot Fuzz (2007)

Hot Fuzz

This one is a parody of buddy cops duo like Bad Boys. It is about a perfect London police officer who got transfer to an English town with a lowest crime rate in the country. He and his new buddy have to solve series of mysterious deaths in this small village. I love to read mysteries fictions, so this one is right up my alley!

3. The World’s End (2013)

The World's End

The last film in this trilogy is a parody of classic science fiction movies. It is about a man who is still stuck in his teenage and decided to do a pub crawl in his hometown with his old friends. They discover an alien invasion while they are at it! It was fun and entertaining movie but the ending is questionable whether he did the right thing or not?

So, why “Cornetto”… why the ice-cream? Those movies are represented by different flavours of Cornetto Ice Cream: Shaun of the Dead is strawberry with red package, Hot Fuzz is original cone with blue package, and The World’s End is mint chocolate chip with green package. Those cornetto ice cream also showed up in those movies! Here is my fanart of the movie, “Hot Fluff” as my favourite movie among the trilogy is “Hot Fuzz”. It reminds me of “Murder on the Orient Express” by Agatha Christie and the story involves with a group of normal human beings, not something out of ordinary like alien and zombie.
